A renewed interest in the 16th century
I wrote a quite long post about this, but managed to hit the ctrl-key and lost it all, so here we have the abridged version:

myladyswardrobe and talking to her (and seeing her wonderful red corset and pretty, pretty bodice) as well as hearing guyelfkin talking about his Kentwell costume has together with the fact that the local SCA-group, Gotvik, has 16th century Flanders as the theme for their St. Egon feast in June, managed to get me enthusiastic about my 16th century flemish dress again. I have done the headwear, the corset and the partlet and I already have a farthingale and petticoats that I can use. So all I need to do is to sew the actual dress and hand sew a high necked smock. It would be nice with a kirtle under it, but it will be okay with just a petticoat. I have also decided to make it in black after all, from some very thin wool tabby that I have. I will have to interline the bodice with heavy linen before lining it with some black linen I can buy from Anna. The skirt will be self-lined, since I have quite a lot of it and this wool is about the cheapest fabric I have. I need fulled wool for the guards and some smaller stuff, but I have the linen for the smock so I shouldn't have to spend so much money on it.
I will not give up on the 19th century dress however. I cut all the pieces for the bodice today and made one unsuccessful attempt to gather and pleat it to the lining. I will have to enlist the help of Anna to pleat and pin it while I'm wearing the corset and the lining.
