Midsummer's Eve

Midsummer's Eve last night was nice, though a little slow. It rained all day, so to go and watch folk dancing and the raising of the pole was not to think of. I probably wouldn't have gone anyway, since Rickard was working and we had guests. [livejournal.com profile] herzeloyde + bf Kristian and [livejournal.com profile] armillary were here and we had a really good time. We ate the traditional foods: pickled herring (actually "matjesill", a special variety of pickled herring with a similar seasoning to canned anchovy), with fresh potatoes cooked with dill with butter, sour cream and chives. And for those who don't eat herring we had meatballs and sausages. For dessert we had the usual strawberries and cream, but since it was Kristian's birthday we also had cake.

We ate too much and got really tired, but the guys managed to play one round of the board game "Betrayal at the house on the hill" with the big girls while [livejournal.com profile] herzeloyde and I vegged in front of the old BBC Mansfield Park (not so good costumes, but very true to the book). Then I cut [livejournal.com profile] armillary's hair before everybody went home. I continued vegging in front of the telly, this time it was Maxie, and sewed some on Maja's new 16th century kirtle.
