A question for the 18th century experts

This is the hat that started my new enthusiasm for the 18th century (and then came Dress of the people). What I didn't hink of when I found it online was that it apparently is cut in one edge. I can do that of course, but I would like to know if anyone has seen anything like that before, especially a painting where you can see it worn.

I wonder if it's not particularly Dutch : there is a similar hat in the exhibition catalogue "Modes en Miroirs, La France et la Hollande au siècle des Lumières"... This hats si coming from Friesland.
I don't know if it were wearing in other countries...

I can't find any pictures at this moment, but I think the cutting edge were worn on the back of the head...

Thanks. I'll see if I can find something with that extra info.

I remember seeing images of similar hats in a Dutch book on 18th-century dress. I won't have time to get over to the library to see if I can hunt that down until next week. I'll try to remember to look.

That would be lovely and I would be very much indebted to you.

Yes i second http://lisotchka.livejournal.com/ about this being a dutch hat. There is one in the catalogue from Galliera.

Maybe I'll have to pretend that I am dutch then :)
Do you know if straw hats were lined with printed cotton in other places of Europe, without havign this special shape?

Ok, thanks anyway, I'll be dutch then, because it's too pretty not to make.
