Merida's dress

Maja's new "medieval" dress is a copy of the one worn by Merida in the Disney film "Brave". It's not bad really, I could document all parts of it from the same time period and culture, though probably not from the same dress. I'm making it from blue green wool and I just ordered linen fabric for the shift.

Nothing wrong with using a children's movie for inspiration. If I was six and heading to a reenactment I'd probably want to wear something similar to what Errol Flynn wore in "Robin Hood". The fact you can show how it actually was made and worn historically just makes it that much more interesting.

And it's the SCA, many people wear less documentable types of garb, but I think I will try to fidn documetnation for it that works and write about it.
