Bonnet news

I have been working on the bonnet most of the day. Left to do:
Hem the bavolet, i.e the flounce at the bottom.
Sew on two pieces of ribbon as trim.
Decorate it with fabric flowers
Sew on the ribbons to tie it with. This will have to wait because I don't have any wide enough ribbon. I will get some tomorrow.
Expect pictures tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

I made a quilted bonnet yesterday (a test version from purple and green polyester habotai). Recommended! Very fun to make and very comfortable. It would not have been as densely quilted if I had done it by hand though...

oh, you two've been busy and setting the standards. am afraid we are not as productive up here in sthlm. we're just all so hooked up on knitting at the moment... but we'll get there in the end i am sure, there's several months left to septemer :)

can't wait to see pictures!

But we could have a picnic before that.I'm thinking Trädgårdsföreningen in June when the roses are in bloom. The butterfly house is after all a copy (though smaller) of the Crystal Palace from the world exhibition of 1851 and the café is a nice 19th century house.

if i can only get going on the corset, chemise and drawers, i should at least be able to make a very simple day dress in cheap cotton?

hmm.. it's just that i do have that wedding dress to complete before pentecost, for my best friend's wedding. i have to come up with a dress design in which she will be able to ride to church (and no easy going ride here, she plans to come up to church on one of her icelandic horses in full speed). all good ideas very welcome!!!

A white riding habit with a white hat and veil! I have hardly seen any ugly riding habits, they always look great. Now if she doesn't do sidesaddle it's more of a problem...

i tried to introduce the notion of riding habits, but icelandic horses are not into sidesaddling. neither is my friend. unfortunately... no i need to come up with a solution for the skirt that enables some real time riding!? and she's not into wide skirts either... why make things easy for your friends?
(*sigh* the last wedding gown i made two years ago was for a five months pregnant friend. there were drastic body changes every weekely fitting session, it almost drove me insane...)

am seriously planning for some knitted details though, and i think i've firmly planted the idea of a nice light weight wool fabric! wool tabby/crepe, shimmering lace knitting and some glimmering sequins and beads... floating down the hill on a white horse in the sunshine... she's going to be pretty i think ;)

btw, wedding is going to be at nääs slott! so i can do some investigations for the 19thC party plans.

I need to make a corset too. I can't keep stalling by making drawers and hats. I already have a plan for another bonnet. Next 19thc project wil have to be the corset.

btw, i'll be in town first week of may, if you still want to have a two-end knitting session!? (probably coming down april 29th and possibly staying until may 9th or there abouts)
