Pictures finally

My hand sewn effigy stays have been finished for almost a month, but now I have actually gotten around to taking some pictures. There will be more of them later on my web site, as well as a description of how I made it, the mistakes I made etc. But for now, here are two pictures:

As you can see it fits perfectly now.
That is good. What is not so good is that most of my 16th century clothes are now too big. Including the Anthonis Mor dress. For that dress it's just so little that it is solved just by wearing the green kirtle I made for it instead of this corset, but other dresses are really too big.

But a good thing is that I now can get into a very pretty dress I made in 2002, from light green brocade with metal threads and which I have only worn once. I will have to remake the bodice however since it is 8 cm too wide at the waist. It does fit over the bust, but the square neckline is a little too small; I can see that now that I know more about 16th century dress than I did when I made it. But if I find the energy to remake it, it really is a very pretty dress. I'm not sure about the trim I used, but most of it will have to be taken away anyway if I'm remaking the bodice.

The corset looks great! (And ya look pretty good yerself!) Clearly all the tweaking was worth it.

Thanks. And yes, the tweaking was worth it; but then it nearly always is, isn't it?

Wow!! Fantastic job, Eva!! It fits you just perfectly, and the work is lovely. Nice choice in binding. Say again, what did you use for the boning?

[identity profile] frualeydis.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I used flat/oval reeds from Grannd Garb. One reed per channel except in the front piece without tabs where there are two.
The binding does look good, but I can't take credit for it; it was a default choice: that's the colour cheap chamois leather comes in :)

......wow

[identity profile] peronel.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That is really nice. It gives you the teeny-tiniest waist.

[identity profile] frualeydis.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

My corsets usually don't diminsh my waist at all, corsets with busks actually add to my waist, because of it's straightness. The problem is of course my rib cage, which measures 91 cm at the lowest ribs (you can see that it presses out the corset in the frist picture). If your corset is to be conically shaped then you can't get a very narrow waist then.
Not that I really complain, it's comfortable and there is anyway nothing I can do about it. My ribcage is both sturdy and very inelastic due to the constant inflammation in it.

But it make my waist look smalleer and that's worth a lot.

Oh very pretty! You and the corset both. :-) I'm glad you got a chance to take pictures anc congrats on the weight loss!

That's great that you get to wear some of your older pretty dresses again too. :-)

Either you've lost more than I realized, or the corset is *really* making you look small. I suspect it's mostly the former.

Well done. It looks lovely and you look fab!

I weigh about as much as I did when we last visited you, but you didn't see me corseted then. And when my last (before this) corseted pictures were taken (the ones in the icon) I weighed 5 kilos more than I do now.

very very nice :)

hopefully it will infect me via Malin so much that I'll finally make my own :)

It's not that hard you know. But don't make your first by hand. You need to perfect the pattern first.
