Arms

Having received my AoA I have started thinking of registering arms in the SCA. I can't use my Nordrike arms because they conflict with everything (one reason for this is that SCA heraldry, unlike medieval heraldry, doesn't make distinctions between cinquefoils and roses, so not only do they conflict with all other cinquefoils but also all roses, which is quite a lot of medieval heraldry). But I like my Nordrike arms, not only are they different from most other arms I've seen in Swedish medievalist groups, they are also simple and medieval and carry a special meaning to me. So I wasn't thrilled about finding new arms when we talked about it yesterday evening at Nylöse's monthly meeting ([livejournal.com profile] armillary is herald both for Nylöse and Gotvik, the local SCA shire). We sketched some variations, all based on medieval examples, but I wasn't really excited. Then tonight when I couldn't sleep I got another idea which I hope I will be able to register in some way. It will be cool, and carry even more personal meaning. So I'm crossing my fingers.

Looking ok so far. Do you have any preference for the placement of the cinquefoils? Three of them in a row along the top edge, or separate in each of the three corners of the shield (think Gerdeka's arms) Those were the combinations I could think of offhand, so that's what I looked for.

Also wondering if you have any special requests about the posture of the birdie. The default seems to be facing dexter, sitting with one leg down and one raised, and the wings closed.

Default birdie looks good, but I'm not tied down to any specific position. As for the cinquefoils I would prefer the same placemetn as Gerdeka has.
