Dating bones

I need an overview on different methods of dating bones - could someone point me to one? I only need a brief explanation, nothing fancy.

I don't know of any list, but I have many people I can ask. But do you mean animal bones or fossils?

Probably both, mainly human.

I just made a short search in Geolexi (http://www.nhm.uio.no/geomus/leksi/), I found this very short entry http://www.nhm.uio.no/geomus/leksi/a/aldersbestemmelse.htm when I put in the keyword "datering".

Turned into petroleum-really, really old.

But if you bury a plastic bag, will it turn into a dinosaur?

I have also sent an email to palaeontologist Jørn Hurum to see if he has a handy list.

That should be enough, I have to check out fluoride dating too, but then it's enough - it's for the radio show.

Post a link so we can hear you online? I only have norwegian radio at home (and bbc, but that doesn't help much).

He didn't have a list available, but said:

for mer moderne bein (mindre enn 50.000 år)
karbon 14

eldre knokler
alle dateringsmetoder som brukes på geologisk materiale som er mindre enn 500 millioner år (en hel drøss)

if you have any questions, please feel free to look on my friends list for raydon_12, aka Don Larson. He's an archaeologist.
