Maria von Trapp

I discussed dressing up with my friend Sara yesterday and it made me think of way back when[livejournal.com profile] katarinaw and I were going to a film-themed masquerade: she wanted to go as Mae West (but didn't because she didn't have the time to sew) and I dressed up as Julie Andrews as Maria von Trapp in Sound of Music. And that choice actually says a lot about me, and also probably explains why I for example never get offered drinks by strange men when I go out: if you're the Julie Andrews type you just can't be Mae West.

snicker...if I was going to go as someone out of a movie for a masquerade it would be slightly more wierd...

I would consider things like orcs and the like...:)

( And nazgman would probably suggest me going as Captain Fredrikson considering my bad eye... (snickers even more) and NO I would NOT wear a whig out of horse tail!)

LOL. I don't think I could do either. I wonder what I am?

so - this means you go for sailors?

Well, who can resist a man in a sailor's suit? Being a convinced pacifist I do have some problems with the navy though.

Maria von Trapp: one of the big-screen costumers-icons - after all -she made costumes out of old curtains, and what costumer among us hasn't done that in their time?

Scarlett O'Hara: another big-screen example of curtain-costuming.

Going as Maria would be a good example of "things you wouldn't think to be as scary as they are." Like my pink cheerleader. But would that mean I'd have to go as a nun to match?
