Sigh

I've started on the corset again, doing the math all over and hoping for a better result.

Poor thing! I hope it goes better this time. Corsetry can be such a bitch!

What frustrates me most about corsetmaking is that the math doesn't understand squish.

Do remember to use the mistakes of the other to solve the problems of the current one, rather than just shrinking down the pattern.

But you knew that.

I made something like 5 fully finished corsets before figuring out the right amount of squish, and I don't have that much squishiness to worry about! What started off as a Laughing Moon corset pattern evolved into a hybrid of my own drafting sillz with help from an off-the-rack corset I bought at a con in Boston 5 years ago and fit like a glove.

If it weren't for the Brute Force Leather corset, I'd still be scratching my head over victorian corsets in general. It ended up being the best cheat-sheet I could hope for. ;)

I think the main problem was that I started with the measurement of my waist in my Effigy-style corset which really doesn't compress my waist at all. So the waist measurement was too big and the other measurements were based on this. I also actually made a simple calculation mistake, thinking that the pattern had 30 squares at the waist and then dividing the desired measurement with that, when it really had 33 squares. And that really makes a difference.
