I somehow managed to shrink my black and green checked rayon dress two weeks ago. Really weird, because I've washed it on that temperature several times before. Well, no point crying over spilled milk - I'm going to give that dress to a slightly thinner and shorter friend. But it left a hole in my wardrobe, I don't have that many winter dresses for everyday wear.

Fortunately I had recently bought a nice rayon striped in burgundy, grey and black. My inspiration was this dress worn by swedish jazz singer and movie star Alice Babs in her debut movie from 1940.

I made long sleeves and it has no collar (though I have several fake ones to attach if I want to).

And from the back:

I also started making another dress after same pattern as the checked one, from a turquoise cotton/rayon blend that I bought in London last time. It turns out it's a little on the tight side, not uncomfortably so, but a few centimeters ease wouldn't have hurt. I will have to think about that next time I use the pattern.

It shows clearly, however, that if you're shaped like me tight clothes will look indecent, no matter how high the v-neck is. All I lack now is a zipper and then some hemming and it will be finished. I will get a zipper tomorrow when the shops are open.
