As I said earlier the dress is made from a pattern I won in a giveaway in the blog New Vintage Lady. It's an Anne Adams pattern from the 1940s and looks like this:

And here you can see me in it. With a bike, because I got inspired by a set of photos that [livejournal.com profile] billyoblivionx posted on facebook, showing ladies on bicycle, mainly from the 1940s. The bike belongs to my husband and is of course not a 1940s bike, but a modern ladies' bike.

The house behind me is a private hospital built in 1927. This is very close to where I live, I pass through this park on my way to work. (This is also where my family go to the doctor if we need to.)

Here you can see more of the park, and a white house from the 1940s, in the functionalistic style.

The pattern wis a 40" bust and fit me over the shoulders and at the waist, but nowhere else. Since I have large breasts and wide hips and a big difference between bust, waist and hips I had to do some serious alterations in the pattern. I made the bust curve much more extreme and widened the pieces more from the waist to accomodate my hips which are not only wide, but I also have high hip bones which gives a sharper curve. I also had to lift the back, since I have straight neck and the dress gets too long there otherwise, and make the shoulders traight and not even slightly sloping.

Originally I had planned to make a white collar and cuffs, like on the largest of the drawings. However, when I had cut out the dress I saw that I didn't have enough fabric for the front facing and when I looked around for some remnant to use I found the dark blue cotton with polka dots and thought tha tit would look neat also as collar and cuffs. The bias tape around the patch pockets is also dark blue with white dots, though much smaller.

That came out nice! You did a great job sizing it for your curves. If I didn't know better I'd have thought the pattern was made for you. :-) I like the dark blue contrast too. That and the belt make the whole outfit look polished.
