Spending weeks rubbing my sweaty hair into a pillow wasn't very good for my har, especially not after last years bleaching. So it needs to be cut and I woner if any of you have any experience with this pdf- book? Or has any other tips; I suspect that I will have to show the hairdresser how to do it.

This is what I'm aiming for I think, since I must cut off so much of the damaged hair I have to go quite short:

Like Sickan here:

Or like the shorter hairstyles among these pretty girls:

And look at these:

I guess that you start with a bob. I used to have curls when my hair was really short, but not enough for most of these looks. But I have a curling iron and I'm not afraid to use it. No one that I know has had any good experinces with perms, so I will not use it, at least not now.

Or should I buy the Vintage Hairstyling book? Or just go and ask for a bob?

In any case I have a horrible cold that won't let me leave the house for quite a while.

I don't have any experience with the book, but the hairstyle in the first photo looks like it would be great for you - she has similar features to you and it's cute and curly. Also, unrelated but - those shoes the women are wearing in the last photo - WANT WANT WANT!

Thank you. I love the shoes too, I wonder if they are dancing or maybe bathing shoes.

The Vintage Hairstyling book is the best I've ever found for teaching how to curl hair. After reading it, I was actually able to do a marcel wave in my hair, as well as victory roll, both of which I hadn't been able to do following any other instructions. Rennells shows you different ways to put curls into your hair, how to comb them out, and how to shape them into different styles. There is a bit of same-ness to some of the styles and they can tend to look like "Hey, I curled my hair" and not really "vintage", but it's still a helpful exercise to try to make them.

It doesn't have any info about cutting your hair, though most of the models look like they have "normal" haircuts - ie not cut to go into a specific style. I recommend this book frequently.

Also, I would stay away from velcro rollers if you do a wet set - they can make your hair frizzy. I've had good luck with using smooth plastic rollers.

I love these styles and think they'd look very nice on you. I do think their hair is longer than a typical bob though, perhaps as long as shoulder length, and a lot of length is taken up with the curl.

The trick is apparently that unlike modern bobs, which are mostly cut to curl inwards, with the under hair a little shorter than the hair on top it should be a little the other way around, like on this photo of Anita Loos (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wQGD1-8m4FM/TWuytg-pB-I/AAAAAAAACPQ/neyIb_vhZjo/s1600/anitaloos.jpg) (writer of Gentlemen prefer blondes).

Photos of her gives one hope for the days when you don't have the nergy to curl your hair.

I don't know anything about the hair cuts, but I'm intrigued by the sailor suits worn by the women in the last photo. I love that little inverted pleat on the top of the thigh on the shorts! And, ditto, I love the shoes, too. Are they ghillies?
