If any of you who are doing 19th century costumes haven't read it already I want to recommend the book Dressed for the photographer. Ordinary Americans and fashion 1840-1900. It is a wonderful, wonderful book that gives you the chance to see how the clothes on the fashion plates actually looked on real people and how people of more modest means dressed, while still being fashionable. And Jennifer, you might want to look especially at page 434 and 485.
