My sewing machine just broke! And I have now finished the inner roof and had started on changing stuff in the sleeping "rooms" so the one I had started on isn't usable right now. And we're leaving at 8 am on saturday!
Aarrghh!!
I have e-mailed my sister to ask if I can use hers, but don't expect an answer until tomorrow (it's 11.30 pm here), but anyway I won't get it until the afternoon and I had planned to sew the whole morning before Rickard's brother and his wife arrived at 4 pm. It would be very impolite to sew while they're here since I haven't seen them in over two years.

I take you're making a pavillion. How are you getting rooms? How are you holding it up!? Dont' answer untill after your travels, but I've made the mideval equivalent of a shower stall, so I'm interested in a liveable design.

She's making an inner tent for it as I understand it - the actual pavillion is already made. The pavilion is rectangular, with two poles with spoked wheels holding it up and providing something to hang the inner walls on. Before, she had two fabric boxes that were hung from the spokes on the outer thirds of the tent, with a common area in the middle. I haven't seen what she's made for this year.

Some pictures of it:

^^ This picture was before she fixed the corners - I did the math for her, but didn't take sagging of the corner seams into consideration, so they dipped quite deeply there.

This is from last year after it was fixed, with her, her husband and Maja in front of it. You can see a little of the construction there.

It's the spoke and wheel type pavilion that you find here (http://home.adelphi.edu/~sbloch/sca/tents/kuijt.article/), except that it has two poles with wheels and spokes and is rectangular. The "rooms" are simply rectangular "boxes" of fabric with floor and walls and a "door opening" that hang from the spokes. One of them used to have a ceiling too, but now that I've made an inner roof for the whole pavilion I removed it (I HATE ripping felled seams). Each box takes up one "half wheel" and the area between the two poles in the middle is left to be the main room. A picture can be seen here (http://www.strakt.com/~bjorn/nylose/Bilder/Visby04/tn/Visby4.2004.jpg.html), the blue in the background is one of the sleeping "rooms". I believe that this is a more modern than medieval solution, so next year I'm going to open up the sides of the "boxes, add some more fabric and make a whole inner tent with floor everywhere and only have hangings on the poles that divide the sleeping areas from the rest, but it has worked well this far and will work well as it is this year too.

PS. My mother is bringing my sister's sewing machine around noon. Yay!

I'm glad someone is rescuing you with annother sewing machiene!

So your doing up the interior of what looks like a double spoked wheel square. Holy cow! What about the poles? HOw do you erect the entirety of the tent with just the centerpoles (as I asume it must be erected during setup)? With the weight of the canvas, aren't you ever worried your going to snap one?
