Valborg and 1st of May

Today it is Valborg, a day that is traditionally celebrated with huge bonfires to greet spring and a lot of young people getting extremely drunk. You stay outside most of the day and just enjoy the arrival of spring.(Temperatures can vary between 5 and 25 degrees celsius here in the south, in the north there's still snow so I guess they stay indoors more). It is also a day for a lot fo student activities, since the celebration of Valborg actually was introduced by students in the old university towns in some national romantic, germanic spirit c. 100 years ago. There were celebrations earlier in some parts of Sweden, but not on this scale. Anyway, here in Gothenburg it is among other things celebrated with students from the technical university having a parade with a lot of wagons where they comment on recent events in Sweden and the world. The humour is often what you can expect from a bunch of 20-something young men but it is very appreciated. Myself I try to stay away from it as much as I can, so I actually haven't seen the parade for over ten years. It is also over 15 years since I last time went to a party and got drunk on Valborg, because I realized it's not worth it, being hung over on the First of May when I always demonstrate with the Left Party.
But this year I will miss the demonstrations because if the baby is born before tomorrow I will be too tired and (s)he will be too small and if (s)he isn't born yet I can't walk that far

That I would miss Beltane with my coven was already clear, since I wouldn't want to travel 90 km by train and be that far from home if labour started, but I had hoped for 1st of May demonstrations.
But okay, if the baby comes today or tomorrow I won't even care about missing it.
