Today my mum and I are going fabric shopping. First we're going to the big expensive store in the centre of town and then we're going to a flea market where you can hire stalls (literally, it's in old stables) and where an indian family sells fabric. She's looking for some shiny fabric in strong turquoise, preferably silk, for an evening dress from 1936 that she's making. It's from Patterns of Fashion 2, you can see it on the front page, to the right. it has a undecorated front, cut on the bias and half circles of fabric forming a sort of flounce going all the way from the shoulders to the hem on the back, ending in a short train. The original was in a soft silk taffeta, but I think all the taffeta we can get hold of would be too stiff.
Myself I'm just going ot look at what kind of silks are available at the little indian store.
