A one day project
Sep. 8th, 2005 10:52 pmToday I made a c. 1600 jacket from grey wool. I made the pattern by looking at the two embroidered jackets in PoF, taking bust, waist and shoulder to bust and waist measurements and drawing free hand on the wool with a pencil. Then I sewed the side, shoulder and sleeves seams on machine. The gores were put in by hand since it's much easier to get a good result that way. Then I hemmed it all around and now it's finished apart from that I need to get hooks and eyes for closure. I have a picture where it is pinned together so it is a little tighter than it will be when it closes edge to edge. It's meant to be a mundane jacket so I'm wearing it without a corset, but I may use it if I ever want to do very late 16th or early 17th c. Anyway, I now have a pattern. What I need to do is to make the neckline a little rounder, now it looks like it's pulled together because of the angle of the neckline. But that will have to be tomorrow because Maja and I are going to bed.
