Look at this cool engraving by Lucas van Leyden. It looks like the milkmaid is wearing trousers under her skirt. It's most likely however that they are footless hose, like her male companion is wearing. Hose for women are known from both the middle ages and the early modern period, while trousers or drawers are, with the exception of a few italian example who belonged either to the aristocracy or to courtesans, unknown in this time. And this is neither Italy, not the upper classes. Footless hose, on the other hand are mostly depicted on lower class people.
He also shows footless hose on a woman in a print of a group of beggars, again showing the very low social groups that these belong to. But I haven't found that print on the internet.

My friend Jovi from the principality of Nordmark (Sweden) in the kingdom of Drachenwald is going to Pennsic with her boyfriend Sven. Be nice to her if you meet her. She a really nice and fun woman. She's not as interested in period authenticity as I am, or most of the people on my friends list, but she's a great person. She likes fencing and lots of crafts.

I have been looking everywhere, including the storage room that belongs to our flat, but couldn't find some waterproof blue fabric that I knew I had since I remade parts of the pavillion last year. I was going to use it for a sun/rain roof for Visby medieval week. It wasn't enough in itself, but I had found other pieces and remnants of the same fabric, so if I just found it it wouldn't be a problem. And suddenly, I just saw it, in a plastic bag on top of the huge white wardrobe filled with fabric (and shoes) that stands in our hallway.
It's too late and too warm now, but tomorrow I will make the sun/rain roof. I have fabric, I have thread and I have grommets. I may need more sewing machine needles however.

Oh, and why I am listening to BBC Northern Ireland on web radio? The football team I support, IFK Göteborg (twice winners of the UEFA cup) was just eliminated in the qualification rounds for this year's UEFA cup by Derry City and the game was sent live on BBC Northern Ireland.
