My big girls
Aug. 17th, 2006 07:27 amToday is Vendela's and Valeria's twelfth birthday. They're not up yet, no-one is except me, and I'm only up because it hurts too much to sleep.
Their birthday present will be new bikes. Cheap bikes, because we're not very rich, due to me being unemployed and Rickard working in a supermarket. But they seem okay and they're new. The last bikes they had was when they were eight or so and has of course not been used for years. Now they're tall enough to have adult sized bikes so we won't have to buy new bikes in a couple of years.
We bought them on Hisingen, the island that part of Gothenburg is situated on. There is a large shopping centre there. Then we assembled them outside the shop and biked home on them. That was the only way to get them home, the boxes were too large to take on the trams. It is maybe 2 miles from here so it's not far, but Gothenburg is rather hilly. So I got some exercise yesterday.

Apparently the little paper with the date and place of the viva voce and the abstract on the back is wrong. Instead of writing 29th of September
armillary wrote 29th of October.
He's busy installing programmes in his computer now so he can send me a corrected pdf-file. Then I'll have to print 200 double side copies, cut them in half and put them in all the books. A hundred of them has to be done before 10.40 when I deliver them to the university library.

Useless knowledge
Aug. 17th, 2006 09:43 pmEarwigs are killed if exposed to 60 degrees C for longer times. We have just finished drying the walls of our pavilion in our rather small drying cabinets (approx. 180 cm tall, 80 cm deep and 150 cm wide). It rained when we took down the pavilion so we needed to dry it. Earwigs are extremely common on Gotland so there's always LOTS of them under every piece of fabric you have. Of course we brushed the tent but at least 20-30 made it home with us.
There are also always lots of pill bugs that roll into little balls whenever you try to get them out of your bed.
