Why do I do this to myself?

The modern skirt is checked. It is also supposed to be boxpleated with large pleats to the waistband. In theory this should be made easier by the checks, but of course it isn't since you have to match the f&%#! pleats. It also has pockets in the side seams. I don't do pockets! Or zippers, though I have them in all my skirts, so maybe I do zippers, I just pretend that I don't know how to sew them.
Maybe I should just start binding the effigy corset with leather strips.
