A little pink box
Jul. 8th, 2007 11:01 pmSometimes I like to paint motifs on store bought wooden boxes. I've made three boxes for my period hair stuff, jewellery and general knick-knacks respectively and two small boxes for hairpins and veil pins. I've painted motifs and patterns from medieval illuminations on them. For instance the box with things for my hair has the combing lady and maid from the Luttrell Psalter and the jewellery box has the scene were Yvain gets the invisibility ring from a german wallhanging from about the same time.
But this box was for small mundane jewellery: earrings, barrettes, bracelets and such so I thought a more modern picture would suit it better. And here it is:

The picture is taken from somewhere on the internet and the outlines are transferred to the box, which has a coat of "bleached bone" paint for miniatures. I also use the same type of paint for the actual painting, as well as a black permanent pen for outlines.
