I had decided to wear my strong red bliaut from fulled wool (no photos available, I've only worn it once and then I was so sick that we had to go home) for tomorrow's event at Ale viking farm, which is held by the local shire of Gotvik. Warm, and not too far off form the surroundings. Of course I have viking garb too, but I sold my coat, so it would probably be quite cold. But then yesterday, on the long bus ride home from our (one day late) Samhain celebrations I read a lot from Dress in Anglo-Saxon England and now I feel a strong urge to wear my peplos dress again. If so I will have to find a pair of brooches today and decide which wool tunic to wear under it, and decide how to wear my hair. The bliaut on the other hand needs to have the sleeves taken in a little, but that will only take twenty minutes, tops.
But I can't decide. I would want to have an undyed wool tunic to wear under the peplos, but I don't have one and while I have a beautiful undyed linen tunic that would work very well I think it will be too cold for that.

Decisions, decisions.

I have spent the morning trying on different outfits and the verdict is:

I will go to the museum shop and see if they have any fitting brooches I can wear with my peplos-dress. If they have I guess it's a sign. I have a checked undertunic in grey wool that could go for undyed, but since the peplos also is checked I think there may be too much checks. Suddenly I wish I hadn't used up all my beige thin wool for linings.

If I don't find good brooches I will wear my viking outfit. Yes. I realized that it's very comfortable and that it would be fun to wear tortoise brooches and beads and stuff.

The bliaut is fixed, but I think that my reluctance to wear it means that I still haven't got over the overdose of bliaut-wearing which I realised I had maybe three years ago. I have worn bliauts a lot, the 12ty century definitely being on of "my" centuries, but I must have got fed up with them, because I feel almost no enthusiasm for them now.
