Books about goddesses
Nov. 30th, 2009 08:29 pmI've been reading quite a lot of books because of religious interest lately. Only academic books, some of them more obscure than others. My favourite this far is The goddess and the warrior. The naked goddess and Mistress of Animals in early Greek Religion by Nannó Marinatos, I will look up more of his/her (I have no idea) books. I have also, finally, borrowed professor Britt-Marie Näsström's doctoral dissertation Freyja - the great goddess of the North and will read it. I do have some problems already though I've only reached page thirty, mainly due to difference of opinion regarding the Edda (icelandic book from the 13th century) and it's value as a source to pre-christian beliefs but also due to her heavy reliance on Georges Dumézil's theory about a tripartite system which all indo-european cultures can be sorted into. In fact I do have a problem even with the term "indo-european" unless we're talking about language families.
But I will endure, since heathens that I know have had much use of it.
