The title of the section I'm working on now in an article in Swedish about changing body ideals in the end of the Middle ages/beginning of the early modern period: "Bigger breasts, broader hips and prominent penises".
frualeydis: (1940s)
It's not the most flattering dress I've made (too boxy), but at least it's typical of the simple summer dresses people made - I must have at least fifty images of sewing patterns from the 40s showing varieties of this kind of dress, with cap sleeves, or rather no sleeves, and stripes. I guess it wasn't that flattering back then either, though undoubtedly it helped if you had a narrower waist than I have.
I will wear it in any case, since the colours suit me and it's comfortable. And because it has been fighting me all the way through the construction and I won't let it win.
