Nice but weird
Apr. 23rd, 2012 08:59 amThe trip to Kiel was first and foremost very nice: The company, that is: my friend Caroline and her parents, was excellent and so was the food and drink. The boat leaves Gothenburg at seven p.m and we were booked for dinner at half past six so we were busy eating a rather expensive and very good meal when we left the quay. Then we went to what used to be the duty-free shop when we were not members of the EU. It isn't anymore of course but it still has good prices on perfume, make-up and alcohol. We tried on perfumes, which was funny, since I never use perfume and neither does Caroline. We did find perfumes that were very good on us though: "Hypnotic Poison" for Caroline and "Poison" and "Obsession" for me - and the classic "Chanel No 5". "Hypnotic Poison" was okay for me too, but it was perfect on Caroline. of course the most expensive ones were the best ;)
Since we don't use perfume we didn't buy any, just a lipstick and some red wine. We do use that.
The rest of the night was spent in our cabin drinking quite a lot of red wine and talking, before we all went to bed around three.
At a quarter past seven we were woken by a cheerful voice announcing in three languages that breakfast would be served from half past and that we would reach Kiel at nine. All of us were a littel worse for wear, but not too bad and a breakfast buffet which contains bacon is good for you those days.
Teh rest of the day was spent shopping - walking up and down the main shopping street - eating and drinking. I can't say that I have seen anything of Kiel. This is so different from how I would spend a holiday trip, but it was interesting to experience other people's lives and we had fun. The company was excellent and I only had one beer, which was good for me. I do enjoy shopping too, so I'm not complaining; it's just different.
I bought a collection of german movie hits from the 1920s to 1940s and book supporters, which we really need, in a remainder shop. I also got 7 pairs of tights in my size, which isn't that easy to find always, at C&A and Karstadt, which is a german chain of department stores. And these cute shoes at half price at Deichmann:

They're real leather and were 20 euros. We have Deichmann here in Gothenburg too, but they're out in the suburbs and anyway, since these were on sale and the last pair I grabbed them when I could.
The boat left again at seven pm and just like on Friday we had dinner while leaving. And went to the shop, this time to buy alcohol to bring home. I usually don't have much alcohol at home, I buy it when I need it, but since I got my grandmother's liquour cabinet I've tried to get something besides home made elderberry port to put in there. So now there is also Martini Rosso and Bianco and Bailey's in it.
A good thing with the trip was that all the travelling is done in the evenigns and nights, so you arrive back in Gotheburg at nine on Sunday morning and thus still have time to socialize with the family, sew and tidy up some.
