Mar. 10th, 2013 01:57 pmI haven't done any sewing for months. This is of course due to my recent obsession with knitting, but there's a reason behind that too: namely that I have been ill for a long time. Knitting after a pattern doesn't require as much thinking as sewign for me. And even when I modify or make my own knitting patterns the thinking still is a small part of the time it takes to make the garment. Conversely the parts of making a dress that doesn't require any thinking are few and brief: finshing raw edges and hand hemming. The rest of the time I construct the pattern, fit it, figure out which order to do things etc and that is very hard when you're too ill to have a working brain.
And since I got a cold one day before New years, followed by the flu, developing into sinusitis and then a return of the coughing and temperature I feel rather miserable. Despite this I hope that I will be able to make up a pattern and cut this fabric, a viscose in dark blue and green, to make a party dress. All the party dresses that I look good in are very summer-y, like this, so I thought that I should make a party dress that works for winter too (this one is more of an every day dress, though nice). I plan to make it with either 3/4 or elbow length sleeves and as wide skirt as I can get out of the fabric.

Let's just hope that I'm well enough to do it, maybe if I lay down for a while first.
