Monika ([livejournal.com profile] amonik) and Åsa from our medieval group were here to sew and socialize this afternoon. Monika worked on a very nice cardigan and I helped her with a new sleeve pattern for a cotehardie. I had sort of planned to start on my "garter belt" (it's a bit more structured and longer than the average garter belt) next time Monika and I was going to sew but didn't feel up to making new patterns. Instead I made sock garters from button hole elastic. White elastic with blue buttons and black elastic with pink buttons. The white looked so-so, but the black are really cute.
My next plan, apart from felling seams on the Tudor kirtle, is to make a petticoat from silk charmeuse to wear under those of my skirts that doesn't have a built-in lining. I just started cutting the pieces. It will be knee-length and I will probably wear it with some of my lined skirts too for warmth. Silk is so nice and warm.Åsa was working on a 16th century corset in red and gold brocade. I'm sure it will look gorgeous when it's finished and I'm happy if I can drag someone more into the 16th century.

Since I don't live a wild and crazy life filled with parties and adventure I look forward to going to Norway on a conference on Monday a little more than is reasonable and think a lot of what clothes to pack etc. It is usually as damp in Oslo as it is in Göteborg, but colder, hence the silk petticoat. And wool stockings.
