Funny late 15th c. woodcut
Feb. 9th, 2006 03:50 pmWhile waiting for my mentor to return to his office I'm drinking tea and looking in The prints of Lucas van Leyden and his contemporaries and I found this really amusing late 15th c. woodcut on page 33. It's an anonymous woodcut depicting st. Lydwina (who I had never heard of, Here's her story) falling on the ice while skating. And besides the very cool dutch/flemish headcloths it's really cool to see women skaters in a medieval context.
