Sewing in elastic materials
Jan. 28th, 2004 08:47 amI'm just about to cut my bathing suit in two and add a piece of similar fabric to make it fit over my belly. My experiences with elastic materials are not good, my old battered machine hates them.
Wish me luck!

Date: 2004-01-28 12:17 am (UTC)I love sewing stretchy materials. I've made a couple of skating dresses and the material is so forgiving (as long as it's not ultra-slippery or something). I think the suit will come out fine.

Date: 2004-01-28 02:39 am (UTC)According to my dad, my grandmother (who was a tailor) knitted herself a bikini, or two part bathing suit of wool back in the sixties... apparently it wasn't a big success, as wool get awfully heavy when wet.

Date: 2004-01-28 04:11 am (UTC)I have two knitting patterns for wool bathing suits for women, and several for children, all from the 40s, and I would really like to make me a wool bathing suit, but I don't knit that well.
