It turned out that Maja's shoes were too small for her. Rickard will make new ones for her, but not until after the 14th, when Nylöse has a shoe meeting. So I will try to make a pair of simple machine sewn shoes from reasonably thin leather for her to wear on saturday. The pattern will be similar, but instead of sewing the uppers to the edge of the sole by hand the sole will be from thin leather too and sewn like you would with fabric. Then I'll put a felted wool sole inside and bind the edges with ribbon or a leather strip to make the shoe more stable. I did this for Vendela and Valeria another year and it worked just find. Theoretically I should be able to make a pair of hand sewn turn shoes for her before saturday, but I have too many other things to do and I'm really tired after work.
But if I'm able to make a good pattern tomorrow she will have shoes by saturday.

We'd both like to see the photos of her new shoes & maybe even a photo during the creation? That'd sounds like something we'd be in to. I really wish I could knitt I'd knitt all of my wool sweaters...is it terribly difficult? I'm pretty much a DIY person anyhow, maybe my paws are too big for the knitting needles?

I'm basing them on this pattern (http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc-carlson/shoe/SHOES/SHOE9.HTM). Since the sole and upeprs are partly in one the soles will be fairly thin. For shoes that you are going to wear a lot and for grown ups it is better to make the soles from 5-7 mm leather and the uppers from 2.5-4 mm leather. Vegetable tanning is best of course. The site were the pattern is from have more patterns and instructions.
You walk differently in medieval shoes than in modern shoes, more like you would barefoot or in native american moccasins. They're not so nice on tarmac or concrete, but judging from you photos you don't have a lot of that were you live.
