Today, while taking care of Maja I had my first go at regency corsetry. I drew a pattern, with the held of one of my 16th century bodice patterns. I took away the angle that makes it wider over the bust and instead inserted 4 gussets. I also made it lover and shaped over the hips. I may have to add hip gores, but I'm not sure. The mock-up, with a wooden ruler for a busk, looked pretty good. I had to change the placement of the straps, but I plan to make them tied to the front anyway. I will also have to make the gussets a little smaller than in the trial version, but I half way expected that. So now I have a pattern and if Maja would just take her afternoon nap (at 4 pm! I have no idea why she's still up) I will cut it from a sturdy cotton/linen table cloth that will be sacrfied for this noble purpose. I don't think I will have much cording, it seems like the later corsets have more cording than the earlier. This french corset that I found via [livejournal.com profile] demode_kvc only has rows of cording under the bust. A feature I will incorporate in my corset. The back is pretty weird though, I will make a more normal back, with two rows of cording on each side of the lacing holes at least.
Since it's my first try it will be made on machine.
