I'm listening to "Foggy Dew" with the Dubliners. I love, love love it. The voice of the singer, the music, the anger and pain that rings through the sad words, through the 30 years it was since it was recorded and the 90 years that lie between now and the Easter Rising.
And I love, love ,love the Dubliners. I prefer the old political songs, which were one reason they never made it big in the 70s, some of their songs were banned from the radio (excessive drinking may have something to do with that too), but I like the non-political folk music too. I'm not that enamoured with "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Wild Rover", they've been done to death, but for instance I adore "Farewell to Liverpool".
I think I like everything with them, to put it short.

ooh, Irish music...

The Dubliners! Someone else who's head of them! The "Foggy Dew" is one of my favorite Irish folks songs. I also like "The Rocky Road to Dublin" and "The Galway Races." If you like old political songs in this vein, have you heard "Four Green Fields," "God Bless England," or "D-Day Dodgers" (to the Tune of "Lili Marlene"). (I'm not sure which of these the Dubliners did, versus the Clancy Brothers or some of the other bands, except that I know "Foour Green Fields" was written by Tommy Makem.)
