From Ulla Centergran who was on the committee that decided if my dissertation (and defence) was good enough to pass I got this nifty little thing:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It's made from linen and consist of a cylindrical bag for fabric scraps, thread remnants etc, a hard lid (I have no idea what's inside the fabric, maybe cardboard) and a heavy pin cushion. The pin cushion is filled with bird's sand which sharpens the needles and pins.
The pin cushion is attached to the lid with velcro and it's weight makes it possible to hang the bag from a table.

I have used it the last days and I really like it.

That is so much more elegant than taping a plastic bag to the table.

Wow! Did she invent it herself, or is it one of these new "hemslöjd" designs? I can sort of see this featured in the journal "Hemslöjden".

*wants one*

Oh, and is there a metal or wooden ring inside the top rim?

I really love that one. Looks like something straight out of 100idées, but lots of good stuff came from those magazines.

I need to make one of those. WHat is the heavy thing filled with?

I would guess on 12 mm plastic boning or something very similar.
