A modern genre painting
Dec. 30th, 2006 07:30 pmIn the 17th and partly in the 18th century there exists a special genre of paintings (and prints), showing kitchen maids preparing food, plucking chickens etc. often in the company of men and wearing low-cut bodices and lots of cleavage. These pictures were erotic, especially since food was also symbolic of other sensual pleasures.
Anyway, I present to you the modern equivalent:

It is me frying bacon in my 18th century stays. I have put in more boning and also changed the stomacher so it doesn't have the busk anymore (you can read about it here) so I wanted to try it on. I also wanted Rickard to see it when he got home from work. As a rsult of this I ended up peeling potatoes, shredding them and mixing them with flour, milk, salt and eggs wearing my stays. I'm making a sort of potato pancake that we call "raggmunk", which is eaten with bacon.
