First I must start with telling you that there isn't one single place in Sweden that sells buckram. So you have to make your own. My first trial was about two years ago and I used linen fabric and PTA glue. I had decide that next time I should try flour glue. I couldn't find any recipes of flour glue on the internet when I looked under the swedish name, so I sort of made up a recipe. Then, much later, I checked "flour glue" on google. Duh!
But, anyway, my recipe doesn't match most of the ones I found in that that I didn't boil it. There are, however, recipes that doesn't boil the glue, so maybe I'm not so wrong.
But I won't know until tomorrow, when the linen I drenched in glue is dry again. It's pretty coarse unbleached linen that I had made a sleeping shift from. Hand sewn of course. But I almost never use it, I tend to sleep in the same shifts as I wear during daytime (yes, I wash them) because I don't want to use up valuable packing space on something I only wear at night. So I cut it apart and cut some pieces and put in the glue. Hopefully they will be dry and stiff some time tomorrow. Otherwise I will have to buy some hand made paper as a base for the hat I think. And the kind of shop that sells that isn't open until Tuesday.
I'm making a pleated tall hat from black short-napped cotton velvet and lined with grey silk taffeta for Rickard.
