Things that happened today

* I finished and sent in a project application to Vetenskapsrådet (a government agency for research funding)

* I ordered and paid for a copy of Moda a Firenze. I got it on ILL today, but I'm not allowed to take it out of the library, but just a few glances convinced me that I really wanted it.

* A package from Jas Townsend arrived, with two OTK socks for my husband and one pair for me. So now all that needs to be done with Rickard's costume is to braid twenty or so points, sew 16 lacing holes, sew the hat band to the hat and (hopefully) cover his chinese slippers with red fabric to match stockings and pants. They seem to always be in the same colour.
There was also a pair of white OTK stockings with patterned clocks for me.

I have been thinking about ordering something from Jas Townsend, but wasn't sure about how much to pay for shipping. How much did you pay? It should be the same to Norway.

Not as thick as wool tights, more like cotton winter tights. Or typical "women's ankle socks". They were alittle narrow around my husband's calves while pulling them on, but comfortable once they were in place. He has size 43 and they fit his feet.
The white ones fit us both (I'm a 39), so I guess there's a lot of stretch in the feet.

3. Sounds like you've got pictorial evidence for the slippers? I'd like to see that, since I'll be going through the same rush of tailoring with a kit for Precious in the next weeks...

moda a firenze!

oh, i am jealous. i was extremely upset when i was not able to buy it when i stumbled in to the exhibition in florence a few years ago. but carrying it around for another month while travelling through half eastern europe along with the rest of my heavy luggage (computer, workstuff, camera equipment etc) was just NOT doable. the book was simply too heavy!

Not real evidence, but chinese slippers look enough like shoes from the period to satsify me. I would love if he had real 16th century shoes, but since he almost exclusively wears the style from c. 1300 it's a little much to ask that he makes himself a pair of 16th century shoes. Especially since they're more complicated to make than medieval shoes because of the welted sole.

Oh, just a question: How are they around the thigh? I have pretty big thighs starting right at the knee...

They only reach maybe three inches above the knee on my legs. I don't think they're ment to be thigh high. Where they end I measure ca 50 cm.
