Another 50s pattern

I just got another pattern in the mail. It has a sunray pleated skirt. I think it may be hard to find someone who does that professionally anymore, but I'll look around. Otherwise I will have to try it myself :)

Oh wow! This is a great pattern. If you try it yourself, let me know how you do it. I inherited a pattern similar to this from grand-mother when she passed away, but haven't even thought about making it because I don't know how to do these pleats.

You may be surprised though, I know there are professional pleaters still here and even in West Auckland at that;) The one I saw in an ad said they could only do man made fibres though.

Well, I think I could use rayon, I don't mind that. They do recommend here that if you use wool there should be some polyester in it too, since it makes the pleats hold longer.

My sister had a prom dress with a pleated skirt like that. She took it to the dry cleaners, they said they could preserve the pleats no problem, and when she got it back, it had a straight skirt. She was really upset. They tried to press the pleats back in, but couldn't.

I have heard of places that do pleating. However, it was just in passing at Costume College where someone said someone she knew sent her things out to be pleated. Not helpful, but at least they still exist :)

And even if you can't get the skirt pleated, it's a great bodice! I love the model too. She really doesn't look like a model and looks so very 1950s...

I've found a place in Norrköping, which is in another part of the country, who does sunray pleating and I guess I could always send it there if I don't find somewhere local.

I love the model too; I'm just afraid that is the way I will look.

Cool! And they did have a fan-shaped one. Unfortunately it was only 18", which is too small for a skirt.

farmora mi var skredder, og siden plissering er en kjempejobb var det visst billigere å sende inn ting til oslo plisséfabrikk, enn å timelønne seg selv, men siden det var på 50tallet vet jeg ikke om den finnes lengre.
