I cannot begin to tell how bored I am with work right now and still I do it, even if no-one's controlling that I do anything or even demand that I do it exactly today - I'm a miracle of self-discipline ;)

Wow, you do have a great self-discipline! I feel like I'm always bored with my studies, even with the ones that are actually interesting. Maybe some real vocations would help...

I'm actually amazed at it myself. But you do get better at as a PhD-student, since noone is watching you and you still have to work to have something to present when you see your mentor. And of course it helps that you're interested in the subject, but that will only take you so far since most of the work is just work and not very inspirational.
