[livejournal.com profile] emoni is turning 30 in January and is planning to have a pirate themed party (yes, she's such a youngster; heck - I feel very young when I hang out with my work mates, at forty you seem young and inexperienced).
Now I have to decide a) how much work to put in this project and b) what I'm going to put all that work in.
There are several options:

1. The obvious: late 17th/early 18th century clothing. We have none, but it would be fun to make. We could of course dress as sailors too, but I happen to like fancy clothing. Can be made with a local touch too, since we have a famous local privateer who turned very rich from his piratical endeavours, plus smuggling.
2. The cinematic: 18th century and frequent showing of underwear. Means a new outfit for hubby and new 18th century stays for me.
3. The boring: Vikings. Since we already have viking clothing this means little work.
4. The extremely obscure: To go as the archbishop of Nidaros (Trondheim, Norway) and the mother-in-law of the danish nobleman and representative of the danish crown in Norway: Vincent Lunge; who both were accused of piracy on several occasions in the 1520s. This has the advantage that the clothing could be used in the SCA, but the disadvantage that we may not be easily recognizable as pirates. And of course I have no idea what archbishops in 16th century Norway wore when engaged in piracy. Nor elderly ladies.
5. The silly, yet historical: Spanish Pirates, as seen in the movie Elizabeth - I'm not sure if I want to wear a ship around me a whole party though.

6. Caesar and the pirates :)

Pirate parties are so much fun! The theme for next years gaming convention (Arrr!Con) will hopefully be pirates, and I have the best pirate mantua ever. It has pirate buttons (made by Dill, http://www.dill-buttons.com/ )!

Arrr!

I'm undecided on the details, but there will be *something* sewn up.

I always find situations like these are a good excuse to go for completely unhistorical and very theatrical outfits. Because, you know, it's a nice change. You can borrow The Kråsskjorta From Hell if you like. It has 1 meter of lacy curtain on it.

Signed,

Hello :D I saw you at [livejournal.com profile] elysesewell, had a strange impulse to see your profile, and I loved your public entries. My name is Francisco, and I'm a student from Mexico. Cheers!

Hi!

Thanks. Most of my posts are public; those who aren't are mainly those where I bitch about my students ;) and that's not many.

You could do the cinematic option in a 16.th century version?

1. No-one would be able to tell the difference between 16.th and 18.th century
2. You could re-use it as SCA later
3. It rocks!

I used a quasi-historical corset, a 1505 underskirt with gold embroidered hem and a full 16.th century chemise underneath. Put a scarf on my head, a metal gidle with scary sword around my waist, and GRRRRed through the night. It worked well! The outfit:

(It was [livejournal.com profile] sneprinsesses pirate party, as can be seen here: http://operafantomet.livejournal.com/123613.html )

Have fun!

Lätt att ni får. Men det är snarare ett diagram än ett mönster, egentligen. One size som bygger på att man har 112 cm över bröstet, så frågan är hur användbart det egentligen är.
