Selling garb
Dec. 28th, 2008 12:34 pmI've long ago decided to sell my 16th century saxon court dress; even after loosing weight there is no way my ribcage is going to fit inte that bodice - Maja and arthritis has changed it too much. And finally I had the energy to put it on my dress dummy to take some photos. Of course it doesn't fit the dress dummy - her boobs are hard and non-compressable, but at least you can see how it looks. I ought to have ironed it too, but I can't be bothered. I'm putting it up at Tradera, a swedish branch of eBay.

Now I just wonder what to ask. I've only worn it once. The materials are all cotton; velvet and damask, and there is no visible machine sewing, not even on the inside, since it's fully lined. Would 1000 SEK (approx. 125 $) be too much? (The shift which is poly cotton with a woven in stripe could be included if the buyer wants.)

Date: 2008-12-28 12:44 pm (UTC)I would say 1000 SEK is too little, I'd ask for more and allow some haggling, Including the shift for a discount etc.
I sold a victorian (1887) ballgown for 1700 NOK, and a set with cape and dress (modern design with many panels) for 1200 NOK.
I know it is never possible to be paid for the time spent in research and sewing, but I always aim for getting the materials cost back and lots of hand sewing and nice finishing I expect to get something more for than something which is overlocked.
