frualeydis: (16th century)
[personal profile] frualeydis
I have finally gotten around to reading the report from when they opened the Vasa (swedish royal family) graves from the 16th century back in the 40s and I am so excited. The books have been standing on my shelf for ages, but since they were post-medieval I didn't read them until now. PhD Eva Bergman wrote two very interesting chapters on the grave clothes and the textiles used in the funeral processions. There are photos, some (conjectured) diagrams and even a proposed pattern for knitting the silk stockings of Johan III (dead 1592).

The book(s) are called "Vasagraven" and are published in 1956.
