A question for the 18th century experts

frualeydisThis is the hat that started my new enthusiasm for the 18th century (and then came Dress of the people). What I didn't hink of when I found it online was that it apparently is cut in one edge. I can do that of course, but I would like to know if anyone has seen anything like that before, especially a painting where you can see it worn.
