It's from a 13th century Bible Moralisée currently in Vienna. I have seen it before, but only and b/w and I needed it for one of the lectures at this year's Visby medieval week.

NOW we're talking!

I just participated a lecture about Medieval "obscene" motifs in painting and their possible meaning. The stuff depicted would never, ever be painted in religious context today, and I'm rather amused by it when seeing it through my "modern eyes". I don't get the sinful and moralizing vibes from them as they intended, I'm more amazed by the creativity.

"The flasher" from Nørre Saltum church in Jutland in particular - that's an obscene and creative depiction if ever I saw one!

Thanks for sharing the one above.

Yep, now we're talking! It's for a lecture on same sex love and sexuality in the middle ages.

And I don't care how much you document gay love, I'm still not going to re-enact it.

It's prefectly okay, I'm not really re-enacting love at all - just experiencing it.

hmmm, sorry, I was in a happy place just now.

As much as I respect the right to same sex relationships, it's just not my bag baby.

Now, if your talking about 2 women, that's different!
: )
Afterall, what's better than a naked woman? 2 naked women! In fact I believe the pleasure is squared and not just doubled.....

But I digress. It's a great illumnation!
