Too much shopping
Dec. 28th, 2004 02:48 pmI really shouldn't be allowed out on town. yesterday I bought a green t-shirt and a knitted beret in mint, white and grey. Today I was just going to Indiska, a swedish chain of stores with clothes and home decor stuff from India, to get some sari trim, since they have decided to have that again after four years or so. I got four metres (they come in two metre pieces for some reason) in purple with gold pattern. Yes, I know that paisley isn't period but how often do you find broad trim with real metal thread in this country? Not often. I also bought a tassel from golden yellow glass beads to hang from my girdle when I decide to make this dress. I already have one in clear white beads but thought I needed another one. Then I bought three v-necked tops at H&M, one burgundy red, one very light blue and one in a rather strong pink. They all have 3/4 sleeves which are my favourite, both because I think it looks good but also because full length sleeves get too long on me so I have to fold them up. I have no idea why people who make tops and sweaters thinks that just because you're fat you get gorilla arms. I'm currently wearing the bright pink top with a wide dark, dull pine green skirt that reaches to my ankles and I think it looks really good in 1950s sort of way.
But now I have no money (except my secret savings for Rickard's present) so I have to stop shopping.
Oh, and to get back to the tassel and the dress I linked to:
I want to make that dress exactly as it is, but it's not high on my priority list and I think I can get a very similar look by making the sleeves, the forepart and the yellow partlet and wear them with my purple dress. You see, now I can make sleeves for it, because I have decided to take apart Rickard's doublet that never fit him and make him a new. From the doublet I can then make sleeves for me and a new codpiece for him since the old one looks strange and maybe even longer canions on his paned slops so they fit better with his knitted wool stockings, which are in the perfect colour but just a little too short.

Date: 2004-12-29 01:31 am (UTC)I think it must be applique. If you look right at the bottom of the forepart, near the hem, the pattern changes slightly. The last black bit is a triangle rather than an upside down V. The yellow continues underneath it. If it were stripey fabric placed on the bias I don't think youd get that effect.
Peronel.
