Well, as you may have gathered from my absence my illness has continued. Through extreme willpower I have managed to get the most urgent tasks at work done, but despite heroic efforts while suffering from an inflammation in the jaw bone and the beginning of a cold I couldn't finish the revisions of my article on sumptuary laws, imported textiles and the concept of the foreign in 17th century Sweden before the weekend, when my holiday officially started. That means working on the holidays, but first I have to get better - the cold got really bad on Thursday and today is the first day when I don't think that I have a temperature. Now that I have to work on my holiday I can just as well wait a week or so and hopefully I will be well by then.

Still, despite inflammation and cold I have managed to get some sewing done the last three weeks - one seam at a time. It felt good to have something to concentrate on to keep my mind from the throbbing pain and general illness when I was too ill to do any intellectual work.

First I finished a much needed summer jacket from a polyester or polyester/cotton mix twill. My other summer jacket has mysteriuosly shrunk over the bust (it was store bought and thus didn't really have enough room for the bust from the beginning) and isn't comfortable anymore so I really needed a new summer jacket, especially since this summer started out with rain, rain and more rain and temperatures around 11-13 C.

The jacket is very much inspired by a fashion drawing from 1947, but with normal sleeves with three darts at the top insted of the raglan sleeves, thus making it less typically New Look. My bust and hips look better if the shoulders aren't too narrow.

I also made a cotton summer dress from the same 1970s pattern as this dress. I've had the fabric for a couple of years and I wanted a simple project while using up some of my fabric stash.

Ooh, the jacket is gorgeous! Really nice.

My problem with store-bought jackets and coats is not the bust but the bum. :\

The fabric is a bit too loose in the weave, it doesn't hold it's shape as well as I would wish, but I am reasonably happy with it and in all likelyhood I will make a sturdier version later.

That jacket is SO chic! And I can't even tell you how jealous I am that you need a "summer" jacket!

I hope you feel better soon.
When I'm ill sewing is the last thing I can do, it always ends in cutting things out wrong. And you are not supposed to operate machinery anyway :)
So I really admire what you can do.
