I just finished the lacing holes and tried on my new bliaut. And it's soo sexy. The defined waist and the rounded hips that are caused by the pleated on skirt gives it a sort of pre-raphaelite look, a more curvy medieval style. Usually I make bliauts in one piece and with gores, but there is enough evidence for the pleated on skirt to convince me that it existed too, although not so wide-spread as the "normal" type, and the result is great!
now I just have to put on the trim around the sleeves and around the neck.
Before I can take pictures of it I have to make a new girdle and a chainse to wear under it. But I know this dress will be wonderful. The only thing that I'm worried about is that it is made from thin habotai and though it has no problem taking the strain of lacing i'm afraid it will get caught in things and damaged. Well, it's partly a test piece so that won't be a total disaster, but I hope it won't happen.

Don't worry about it being too sexy. IIRC, there were plenty of zealots who ranted about how the new styles (bliauts) in general were too sexy.

You are a beautiful woman. Don't downplay it.

Oh, I'm not worried about that at all. I enjoy it and hope my hunsband thinks so too.

look forward to see the results!

and speaking of costumes, i just spoke with katarina and tove (another knitting friend with similar costume desires) today regarding the possible 19th C-get-together. we came up with a wonderful idea: we the three uf us doing ballet we can offer a mini-ballet show for evening entertainment! the main reason was of course we all want those 19th C ballet costumes, then we realised we could actually try to dance in them too!

and with the rest of you being a very musical bunch of people, we could indeed recreate a real 19th C cliché of a social evenning within a intellectual circle of people ;)

bought some yarn today, so tonight i'm in for a victorian knitting bliss! light green silkalpaca didn't feel victorian enough, so i went for the light creamy pink one... supersoft and just heavenly. also got some thin cotton yarn for laces.
