Today my white cotton/silk satin arrived from Pure silks . There was no way I could have afforded 100% silk satin of this thickness, so I went for a mix, justifying it with the fact that mixes of cotton and silk were not unknown in the 16th century. This is it.

The trim is from Indiabeautifulart on eBay, my absolute favourite eBay shop.

HA! What a coincidence! I just bought my glam caftan fabric from these ebay guys. Glad to know they are as great as they seem!

How does that cotton silk look? How does it compare to duchesse? I've had my eye on it for some time! I can't wait to see what you end up making!

It's a bit more matte than the real silk duchesse that I've seen, but I don't think that would make it ledd historically correct. The satin isn't perfectly smooth, you can the threads just a little when you look up close, but I think it will look very good for Valeria's Eleonora di Toledo dress.

Looks great - I have some cotton/silk satin that I got years ago, I bought all I coould afford of all three colours (sand, pink, and lilac) on the gorunds I could dye it if I wanted different colours and I'd never seen it before (and this ifs the first time I've seen anything like it since).

If it's anything like the stuff I got, it's a good weight and quite hardwearing - I dyed some of the sand a lovely rust colour for behind the panes in my first Kentwell costume:

It's not quite as thick as the one you have, and the satin finish is not as even - I bought that too, and actually used the pink colour as it was, but I do wish I had bought more at the time.

And you look wonderful in that suit, I haven't seen it worn.

Thanks. It's one of my favourites - but I can't get into it any more.

The fabric and trim will look fabulous for the Eleonora di Toledo gown
