Farewell to Mysko

Mysko, our cat died on Friday the 17th. He was 17 and a half years old and he had been getting stiffer and stiffer the last months. The last two days he hardly moved at all, he "hid" under my sewing table and we gave him food and water there. He didn't seem to suffer, so I put off calling the vet. I think it was the right decision too, he has hardly left our flat the last 12 or so years, and it would have been very stressing for him to ride in a car as the last thing he'd ever do.
On Friday I had two pagan friends over and we decided to do a ritual. One thing that I wanted to do was to ask the goddess Freya, whose wagon is drawn by cats, to take care of my kitty. When the ritual started Mysko came into the room, he hadn't been there for at least a whole day, and sat under the table in the circle. Then during the ritual he took a little walk in the circle before leaving, jumping into Vendela's bed, where he had spent a lot of time lately.
So, after he left the ritual I did ask Freya, and she answered me that he was already with her.
One hour later, when we were sitting on the balcony, drinking the last of the ritual wine, Maja went to look for Mysko and found him dead.
She didn't take it as badly as I had feared, because like the rest of us she knew that he was getting very, very tired.
Then the twins came over, and the next day we went to my sister's place, since she has a garden, and buried him there. I gave him a carrot as grave gift, since he had always been so fond of carrots - not to eat, but to rub himself against.
