Pictures of the bonnet and all the relevant construction info (except a pattern which will be added later) can now be found on this page devoted to this new obsession, 19th century costume.
Thank you. I'm currently thinking about if I can wear it mundanely. Probably not. At least not in winter. But I have a small piece of burgundy silk/rayon velvet that would make a nice winter bonnet. And then maybe I can wear it, if I go easy on the flowers and lace.
btw, what kind of glue more exactly did you use? the normal woodglue that comes in orange plastic bottles with a black top (i.e a PVA-glue) or some kind of animal glue? possibly a heat/melt activated glue would be both very good and quite correct? i think i would like to try a really strong fishglue as it's supposed to be more flexible than hide glue.
am going to get a busk later this week and maybe start out making my corset pattern this weekend :)
it's called PVA in swedish too (PVA= polyvinylalcohol) as it is more of a group name for that kind of synthetic glue! don't have any starch glue recipe in bed with me at the moment. but i could probably find out for you tomorrow ;)
Yes, it is cute. Not as scaringly cute as Michaela's bonnet (http://costumes.glittersweet.com/historical/voile1850.htm) though. At least I don't think so.
